Back Notes For The Slides

Slide 2

  • Who Starr is

  • Who Brie is

  • Concrete Rose is the prequel to the hate yo give, following mavric Carters Life as He becomes a teen Father. He Must decide between staying in the gang his father was part of or changing everything and getting out for his new song.

– Connect to brie and the aspect of creating a new image for pop music

Slide 5

  • Language Analysis: Bries passion for her music we see when she is writing, all her thoughts come into place to speak what's on her mind, we get to see everything develop in her head than how she feels when her ideas become words.

Comparison towards the hate you give

ow Brie is Different from Star and why

  • The image of even though two people come from the same place they can live in two separate worlds. Creating the two characters she wanted briana to become the exact opposite than Star,Star comes from a family in which Brianna lost her dad when she was five. And suffers from ptsd from when her mom was addicted to heroin and her mom had left her brother and her to be raised by their grandmother until her mother becomes healthy again. Even when Brie gets her mom back she still has abandonment issue hence why she refers to her mom as “Jay” Brianna has things different from star her family is still fixing what was broken there trust for one another as well as things become hard money wise because Jay gets fired from her job leading Brianna to force herself to get out there and make money of of her dream.

  • How this can reflect on Angie Thomas's childhood is she did grow up in a neighbourhood where there were fairly a lot of drug deals as well as violence, when a boy was shot in her neighbourhood , how this represents this can connect to the author understanding where the message comes from.

  • Even before writing the novel the hate you give Angie Thomas knew she wanted to write about hip hop, As a teenager Angie Tomas sought out Hip-Hop never was really a bookworm. That's how she knew she wanted to write a book about the inspiration of music, she believed that hip hop was not expressed enough through novels; they did not showcase the importance it has in people's lives. How the lyrics speak to listeners impact them in ways other music can’t.

  • Brianna has the world in some ways more against her than Star.Everyone tells her who she is and what she will become without her having a say in anything. As well as what her music represents without trying to understand the meaning.

  • Brianna connects to how people see pop culture and how Angie Thomas feels about pop music and how it inspired her.

  • “Hiphop was the narrative i saw myself in”

Slide 9

  • We can connect the last point to explain exactly why Angie Thomas created this character brie. She wanted to capture the reasoning behind pop and how it is misinterpreted, what it means and the effect it has on people. Brie's perspective teaches us to have a more understanding of pop music and pop culture, not judge for the wrong reasons.

  • Who Rachel.E Sullivan i

Slide 10

  • Periods at the end of each line indicate she is taking a stand, having a period indicates it's the end of that statement she has nothing else to say. Represents how she is real and passionate about her music.

  • Rhyming allows it to put into perspective her passion how music is apart of Brie.

  • Personal pronouns ties into her personality and who brie is how she talks and how she speaks what's on her mind

Slide 12

  • Going against the stereotype of “ angry black woman” Angie Thomas indicates that terrible stereotype. She claimed women of colour have this title put on them which makes them silence themselves, going another direction the character Brie does have a voice she can get angry and sometimes a bit tempered but it puts into the perspective that she is not the irrational stereotype people act her out to be. She knows how to keep her cool. Putting into perspective how Brie is silencing herself showcases us as the audience how she has lost herself, if people just create their own image of you, are you really yourself?

  • “Public viewed hip-hop culture and rap music through a racist lens.Rappers and rap fans are often betrayed as menacing black adolescents ,and rao music verified as violent and misogynistic”(Rap and Race: It's Got a Nice Beat, but What about the Message?, Rachel.E.Sullivan)

  • Comas are represented though she describes what the image people have made her to be replaying these words to herself creating the understanding of how brie herself is taking it all in.

Slides 14

  • Why Angie Thomas felt to as she had an epilogue, i believe she felt that the end was not enough, her readers felt there should be more ad into her future how everything was falling together, how her family has less struggles

  • Felt knowing Brie and having a harder year she needs this ending she needs to become whole again and have peace and live in a calming environment.
